MCHUSA has created a Healthcare Certification Course. This is a hybrid course covering the training that is required for Certified Nursing Aide (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Hospital Patient Technician (HPT) to carry out their duties under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Home Health Aides typically provide care in private residences, overseen by a Visiting Licensed Nurse, most often a Registered Nurse (RN). The curriculum offers a structured progression for entry-level para-medical professionals, supporting advancement from initial certification toward full nurse licensure.
Certifications are valid for a period of two years and can be renewed following verification of at least eight hours of service completed at accredited healthcare institutions. Renewal applications should be submitted to MCHUSA for approval, and there is no fee associated with the renewal process. Individuals may also fulfill recertification requirements by participating in a paid 16-hour review course offered by MCHUSA.
Course Objectives
- Provide education and training for people who wish to perform CNA/HPT/HHA services in healthcare facilities or home care.

- Develop interactive skills to provide healthcare services.
- Understand medical, clinical, and rehabilitation interventions stated in Care Plans and perform duties in accordance with their requirements.

The course offers both theory and practical skills demonstration. It covers ten (10) sessions (70 hours) of theory and 16 hours of practical/skills assignment at a healthcare facility or institution. The course coordinator tracks the progress of each person through course reports, and support staff are available to address academic issues raised by participants.
Hybrid Delivery
This course is delivered online through the MCHUSA Learning Management System (LMS), providing participants with 24/7 access to study presentations and enabling flexible, self-paced learning. Skills demonstrations are conducted at a designated healthcare facility or institution.
Participants learn to perform duties specific to their area of responsibility:
Nurse Aide or Hospital Patient Technician
- Personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, dressing, and feeding
- Vital signs monitoring, measurement, and accurate documentation
- Safe patient mobility, transfer, positioning, and transport for comfort care
- Patient reception, registration, and intake support
- Basic specimen collection procedures
- Medical equipment handling and maintenance
- Infection control and standard precautions in clinical and hospital environments
- Clinical documentation and communication with patients, families, and the nursing team
- Recognition and reporting of changes in patient condition
- Hands-on clinical experience in general wards, emergency departments, and specialty units
Home Health Aide
- Personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, and dressing
- Medication reminders and vital signs monitoring
- Mobility assistance and safe patient transfer techniques
- Chronic condition support, including care for patients with dementia
- Meal preparation and light housekeeping
- Infection control and home environment safety
- Clear communication with patients, families, and the supervising Visiting Licensed Nurse
Technical Support
Course participants have access to 24/7 technical support coordinated through MCHUSA.
Testing / Exams
Course participants are required to complete assessments at the conclusion of each section or part. A minimum passing score of 75% or higher is necessary to advance to subsequent sections or parts.
Admission and Enrollment
The admission criteria for this course is a High School Diploma, CXC, or equivalent. Student enrollment is conducted online through the MCHUSA website. Admitted individuals receive access to video presentations provided by MCHUSA. Enrollment occurs in batches to facilitate effective coordination of services. The course is offered multiple times each year.

Skills Assessments and Course Completion
Students complete 16 hours of supervised practical placement at both a hospital and a long-term care facility (such as the Palms), with eight hours in each setting. Clinical skills are assessed throughout, and supervisors assign a pass/fail grade upon completion.
Certification
Students who fulfill all components of the course and obtain a passing grade on their practical assignment will be awarded certification.
Recertification Process
Individuals are eligible to enroll in a 16-hour course specifically designed for certification renewal. The course is divided into two sections: Part A provides a thorough review of essential requirements for delivering healthcare services, while Part B consists of demonstrations of core competencies at an institution designated by MCHUSA. Satisfactory completion of the skills assessment, defined as achieving a score greater than 74%, is required. Successful candidates will have their certification renewed for a period of three years.
